What's a Super Chip? Can I have one?

Hypertech Max Energy

I seem to be getting a lot of questions about super chips these days. More and more people are asking me the difference between different programmers and performance chips and want to know what will work best with their vehicle. While it would take me far too long to break down the major differences between all the major brands and types out there, I thought today I could highlight some reviews on a couple different top-selling products: the Hypertech Max Energy Programmer and the Edge Evolution Programmer. Continue on to read what everyday folks like me and you are saying.

Hypertech Max Energry Programmer Reviews

Richard B. in Thatcher, AZ, gives this product 4 out of 5 stars.

"Easy to use and easy to install. This item did exactly what it said. I purchaed my '09 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with oversized tires (35 in. dia.) and from the dealer, the speedometer was way off and I was buring all sorts of fuel. After the reprogram, it was great. Gas was pretty good and the speedometer was right. Too bad the dealer (Chapman Jeep in Scottsdale, AZ) did not opt to correct, even though the item was purchased as they designed from the lot! All well, Hypertech took care of the problem at a reasonable price. One drawback, error codes must be called on and tech support is only open M-F (banker hours). If you purchased on the weekend, well, you just have to wait because the codes are not easily found...even online."

Scott M. in Harrington Park, NJ, gives this product 4 out of 5 stars. He used it on his 1999 Checy S-10 Pickup.

"After the installation I have realized 2 mpg increase and better off the line torque. I can't say I am tearing up the streets or competing with hybrids but it was worth the money day to day."

Matthew A. in Rock Hill, SC, gives this product 5 out of 5 stars. He used it on his 2007 Chevy Silverado.

"This thing really adds a lot of kick! The only thing is it doesn't tell you what the difference is between the 3 power stages!! (#1 is 50hp #2 is 75hp #3 is 100hp gain #2 is best for fuel mileage"

Edge Evolution Programmer Reviews

Casey C. in San Angelo, TX, gives this product 5 out of 5 stars. He used it on his 2003 Ford F-150.

"i purchased this evolution for my 03 f150 and it is a very good product. Better throttle response better fuel mileage"

Chris A. in Salem, MO, gives this product 5 out of 5 stars. He used it on his 2005 Ford F-150.

"By far the best upgrade for your truck. Its like driving a new truck, plug it in let it do its thing. Then hang on cause your about to go for a ride. Not only does the truck run way better, I gained gas mileage. How could you go wrong?"

Jameson A. in Anchorage, AK, gives this product 5 out of 5 stars. He used it on his 2006 Ford F-150.

"Installation was a breeze in my '06 5.4L F150 . Easy to follow instructions, and a comprehensive owners manual. Lots of diagnostics and tons of info that can be displayed on the screen (but only four stats at a time). I got it mostly to improve fuel mileage and it did bump it up some, but now that winter is here, my remote start has dropped my mpg's well below where I was at before. Now that the roads are icy I keep it in the "1" mode which is no bonus to HP but improves the shifting to increase fuel mileage, but earlier in the fall I had it on "2," the towing setting, which boosts mpg's somewhat as well as HP and it was a noticeable difference. If you run premium gas in it you can run it on mode "3" for a much larger HP increase, which I haven't done since I pay enough in gas as it is, thank you very much. You can also customize any number of settings if you are a gearhead and know what you are doing, but since I'm not, and I don't, I just use the pre-programed settings and they seem to work as advertised."
