3 Sure-fire Ways To Make Your Ride Faster

Everybody knows there's no such thing as too fast, especially when it comes to your car. You're constantly looking for ways to make your ride go faster, and you're willing to try just about anything. Well, stop playing guessing games and wasting money on parts that don't do anything to improve your speed. With these 3 improvements and upgrades, you're sure to notice big boosts in speed and power.

1. Shave off some extra pounds
Just like you don't see track stars with a spare tire around their belly, your car needs to drop a few pounds in order to improve its speed. Back in 2002, the BBC show Top Gear took a Jaguar XJS and stripped it of abou 400 lbs of non-essential parts to prove this theory. Doing that dropped the 0-60 times by 1.2 seconds.
Now, figuring out which parts are non-essential is really up to you and what you're willing to give up. You can ditch the air conditioner compressor, which tends to be pretty heavy, but you'd have to manage without the comforts of AC. And, you can lose the bumper, but be ready to face some fix-it tickets.

2. Invest in a performance air filter
This is probably one of the cheapest ways you can amp up the power in your ride. In order to go faster, your car needs more air. The more air your engine pumps, the more power it can produce. Superchargers, turbochargers and cold air intakes can all help produce more air, but they're going to cost you a pretty penny. Instead, spend a few bucks on a high-performance air filter. My personal favorites (and I know I'm not alone here) are the K&N air filters. They make thousands of vehicle-specific and universal models that'll help your engine breathe better.

3. Tweak your ECU
This might take some of your inner-geek skills, but trust me, this is the best way to amp up any computer-controlled vehicle. If you're lucky, you'll find a performance chip made specifically for your ride. If not, you can probably find a custom chip for any vehicle with an ECU. Either way, you'll notice big boosts in power and torque, and probably even improvements in MPGs with one of these bad boys.
