A Family Affair

Toyota is taking its Prius line to the next level. At the 2011 North American International Show, the company unveiled several additions to the current third-generation Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle (PHV). In an effort to gain more far-reaching appeal to this line of cars, the Prius family now includes the Prius v midsize hybrid-electric vehicle and the Prius c Concept. Move over you low mpg guzzlers, we're striding into an electric age with a zest for innovative thinking.

The Prius v boasts "versatility" as its moniker and aims to meet the needs of growing families with active lifestyles while providing much of the same as its predecessor. You'll still find it maintains that compact exterior but this ride dials you in with more than 50 percent extra interior cargo space than the current Prius.

The Prius c Concept garners its name with the c representing a "city"-centric ride—perfect for the younger set or young people looking for high-mileage and a compact feel. But don't expect this one to roll out until early 2012.
