At the L.A. Auto Show, Volkswagen announced its “new small family” microcar, the Up Lite. According to the NY Times, this new 4-seater car will have 65 hp, and be the next “green car.”
Weighing in at just 1530 pounds, this car uses some real innovation in its structure. Where it’s most critical, the Up Lite still uses steel (like in the center tunnel and door sills), but it replaces steel with aluminum in the floor. As far as fuel efficiency, you can probably expect to get about 70 mpg.
Production of the Up Lite should occur in 2011.
